Resolved Question: Im extremely shy and going to college this fall...?
I was always quiet, but it got much worse when I started highschool. I went to a small Catholic school, so when I got to highschool (Catholic as well) I guess I was overwhelmed by the amount of new people. I feel like I'm too mature for my age. I can't relate to most people in my class, and their conversations don't interest me. I have about 10-15 friends that I feel very comfortable around because they are intelligent and share similar interests. In my group of friends, I'm extremely outgoing.
One of my biggest problems is that i think most people are unintelligent and have no shred of common sense or any idea of what life is really about. I know that sounds mean and awful, but I can't help feeling this way. All of my friends have proved to me that they're not the average person.
Another problem is my confidence when it comes to athletics. I have no interest in team sports (I hunt) but I still have to participate in gym class. I'm generally not good at sports, simply because I never play them outside of school. My lack of interest in sports also prevents me from making friends. Most of the kids at school are on sports teams and end up being good friends with their teammates. They also talk about sports all the time, and I can never join the conversation because I have nothing to say.
Most of my out of school activities are solitary. I hunt (I like spending time in the woods even if I'm not hunting, especially in the winter when I can go for long walks without getting hot), I play video games, and I watch a lot of TV (mostly Discovery Channel and History Channel). I can always talk to people when playing video games or on the internet, because I can't see them and they can't see me.
I'm going to college this fall, for Pharmacy, and I really want to work on my confidence but I don't know where to start. I especially need help when it comes to girls. I've never had a girlfriend and I want to change that in college.
