Resolved Question: Is it worth trying to be an author anymore when publishing and books are dying out? Do I have a shot anymore?

READ BELOW BUT FIRST READ THIS----> I want so bad to be an author I love writing but I'd like to see people say "wow this book is great" or "awesome so much talent" But authors aren't big anymore it's all rock stars or the next big video game. Heck, the publishing industry is dying out due to the internet, but music is different from reading so whats the point. I wanted so badly for my book to hardcover like Harry Potter was but even ebooks is ok but I feel like this dream is dead.

I am 19, and when I was 10 I got a short story i wrote for school turned into a play which won an award. Since then, I've wanted to write. I stopped writing poetry and storys for a few years as I tried other things but in middle school I wrote a little comic book series about superhero pets. My friends loved it. In high school and even now going into my second year of college I do not have a lot of friends, have never dated, because I am always outlining and trying to write new books or short storys. Last summer my mentor died (my cousin) and as I sat in the hospital room an idea comforted me for a book series where one of the characters would be like her. I am 8 chapters in and in high school I won a nation wide contest and a regional one. My book is about teenage werewolves (not teen wolf, totally different) but obviously it's be for kids or teens, cause they do say hell or damn and even a little bit of bitc-h- not too much. But like I said everything seems to be pirated, no one wants to read as it seems kids are growing out of it they don't like to read.
