Open Question: Why do video games get so much flak?

I get that people play violent games. Kids who are in someway disturbed to an extent or even adults do commit crimes such as murder. But why do games take a lot of the flak? I personnely have played games like Call of Duty, Medal of Honor and such since I was around 6. As have many people in my community and people I have talked to online. None seem disturbed by them. If people don't want there children playing these games then don't buy them but if parents knowingly buy children under 17 M games and then complain that it's the games fault I don't get it. It's not like the sellers at places such as GameStop don't say "This game is rated for Mature audiences for Violence, Drugs, and Sexual content" etc. having taken a part time job at a GameStop in high school we had to tell people this. Why do people blame kids and video games for things. Who's to say that the kid wasn't a pyschopath before they got Grand Theft Auto? Why do gamers have to take the blame for a couple of people who are disturbed one way or another did what we all knew a person like that was capable of? Just wondering. Thanks for reading my rant and thanks for the answers in advance.
