Voting Question: Is there any innocence left in the world?
I've been thinking more and more about it. I just watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes like 30 minutes ago. The main character (the chimp), Caesar starts his life as a baby chimp (obviously) taken from his deceased mother at an experimental biology lab. Of course with his childhood naturally comes innocence. Fast forward a bit, he has grown up with a loving family. He sees a couple of kids riding bikes and breaks into someone else's garden to try to learn to ride a bike. It broke my heart when the owner of the property comes at Caesar with a baseball bat. Fast forward a bit more and he is fully grown and whilst protecting those he loves he hurts others. An easy mistake to make but nevertheless an accident. But the motivation behind the action was love, not aggression. Since he is a possible danger to society, he is sent to a primate shelter. When he arrives he is dressed in his clothes from home. He arrives there as a curious individual. when he meets the other chimps he wants to get to know them and probably play, etc. However the other chimps are aggressive. This is because the shelter's owner's son mistreats the apes and the apes are introduced to aggression. So we see that innocence dies with the son (called Dodge). Throughout the whole film we witness Caesar turn from a good natured and kind being to cold hearted and aggressive animal. Who made him into what he is? Humans. And it's not just animals we influence, but ourselves, with the overuse of guns, violence and murder in pop culture. Don't get me wrong I love playing violent video games, but every now and again I wonder "every time I shoot a man, or blow him up, I have ruined not just his life but that of his wife, his children his parents." Video games don't make people violent, they corrupt us. I know this sounds like some Ghandi shit but if you understand what I'm trying to say, please leave an answer with your opinion.
