Open Question: My step daughter (age 9) Lies about abuse,and abduction attempt. Is this to get attention?
I have raised my 9 year old step daughter for the last 7 years of her life. When she was seven the lying started. She would lie about anything, normal kid white lies. Then she went to school and told her teacher that I had trapped her between the wall and her bunk bed and left her there for two hours. She also said that we made her cut the lawn with a ruler and scissors. Of course none of these things had ever happened. CPS came to our home investigated and found that she was not telling the truth and asked us to get her in to therapy as they believe that she needed professional help.
For a long time it seemed like things calmed down her therapist no longer needed to meet with her. A couple months after she told her friend that our neighbor was having sex with his granddaughter and that he tried to get our daughter to take off her clothes and to touch him. All of the parents of the children she told and ourselves called the police and the police called CPS. His granddaughter was taken out of his home he was investigated. The findings were that my daughter was not being truth-full and that his granddaughter was safe. He put his home up for sale and moved all because our daughter told a big lie. After the fact she told us that it was a joke. We did not find it funny.
Here we are at 9 years old she went to live with her birth mother as she feels we have to many rules. She left a month ago. She was riding her last monday alone and she says that a man in a White van, dark skin, Mohawk, scar on his face, tried to get her in to his van. She said she told him no and he tried to give her candy. Then she said she ran. Well in the last week. The police sent out a notice to the schools to beware of this man and watch your kids close. That letter made it to the news paper. then that story made its way to the tv stations. Now with in a week this story has been broadcasted through the whole state. I can't help think that the description that she gave us sounds like a man in a video game that her father plays. She has such a past with lying I don't know what to believe. I want to believe my child and think that she wouldn't lie about something so big but she seems to be enjoying the attention again. What should I do? I want to bring her home because it sounds as if she is not properly being taken care of and watched. (She also was left at the school not picked up as her birth mom forgot her last week) However, I am happy I am not the parent having to deal with clean up the mess of the lies she is currently telling. What kind of help could she need? The therapist doesn't feel that she can help her.
