Open Question: Worried Pokemon has turned your child against you?
I too am a dedicated Christian, I go to church every Sunday and I'm very involved with our youth. When I was a kid I played Pokemon, my younger brother is the one who turned me onto it. At that time in my life it became the TV show and then the movies were made and there of course is the card game which I played as well. Now personally I am not a big video game person, so my Pokemon phase lasted maybe 2 years if that. Of course right when I was coming out of my Pokemon phase Harry Potter was becoming popular and I got into that series too. All my friends were into the same things I was, they played Pokemon and read Harry Potter. Throughout all this time I still went to church every Sunday with my family and was a member of the youth group. I have never in my life been a violent person and I never viewed Pokemon as violent or like I was enslaving anyone. I never once while reading Harry Potter thought it was real or that I could be a witch. I never tried to study witchcraft and I have certainly never worshiped the devil. I do know that had my parents been crazy strict and prevented me from seeing my friends because we shared common interests. If they had not allowed me to be a kid to pretend and to use my imagination and to learn the difference between reality and fiction. If they had told me this was all because of God and their worry of me worshiping Satan. Well I will tell you my biggest fault as a kid was going against my parents wishes. So if my parents had pushed me into believing in God against my own wishes and had punished me for being myself. I am fairly certain that if I did not start worshiping Satan, I most definitely would not believe in God today. It is because I came to God first through my parents and then through my own free will that I am the strong Christian woman I am today. There are so many more violent things out there that your children are being exposed to. Just turn the news on and you will see the craziness going on. Have them watch discovery channel, and national geographic and other programs which are educational and the violence wild animals show against each other is worse than anything happening in Pokemon. Pokemon is actually about bonding with animals, it's like when you purchase a pet, such as a puppy and you train them to do tricks. It's like the zoo catching wild animals and putting them on display for all of us to see. Do you say the zoo is evil? Are you're children not allowed to visit the zoo and learn about all of God's creatures by seeing them up close? If you don't think of the animals at the zoo as being enslaved then why would Pokemon be enslaved. They have to be caught just like those wild animals at the zoo were caught (before they were bred in the zoo). I can give you so many more real life comparisons to how Pokemon is not evil, but I won't bore you. I am a strong Christian woman but I do not shove my beliefs down other people's throats. This is because I know if I shove Christianity down the throats of my fellow human beings that they will become more resistant to it. If however I practice Christian ways in my life. Specifically the ways of Jesus, to accept EVERYONE for who they are no matter what their skin color, gender, nationality, sexual orientation or even spiritual and religious beliefs are. That God and Jesus will present to me when the time is right to share my beliefs. When I do share my beliefs I do not share them in a way that will alienate or judge the people I am speaking to. I believe that many Christians forget that the only judgement that matters is God's. It is not our place to be the judge, jury and spiritual executioner in the lives of our fellow men and women. Do not judge, lest ye be judged. So my personal opinion of the parents out there posting the Pokemon has turned my child against me post that I have now run across more than 5 different times. Let your kids be kids, let them make mistakes and learn from them. Be open and honest about the things you know no matter how hard you try to shelter them they will or already have come in contact with. You hare doing a disservice to yourself and to your children when you shelter them, because you make them ill equipped to deal with and handle the real world. This is how you end the separation in your families and bring your children back to you and away from Satan, assuming they were even anywhere close to worshiping Satan. Which I personally believe they were and are not.
