Open Question: I Think My Boyfriend is a Sociopath? What Should I Do? I Really Like Him and He's Sweet but I'm Worried?
for about 6 months I've been dating this guy I met at a club and well I really like him and how he looks, he's really hot and to me he's really sweet. My problem is that he acts like a complete jerk towards other people and frankly has some strange hobbies, very strange.
To start well he enjoys attending AA meetings and pretending he's an alcoholic just to listen to the stories of real alcoholics, when he first told me about this I just blew it off as a weird quirk, but then he took me to one of these meetings and told me to pretend to be his wife, and then when I saw what he did at the meeting I was shocked, he kept talking to alcoholics and telling them things to support them and when his turn to talk came I was trully speechless, he started telling all these stories about his supposed alcoholism and his hardships and he kept going on and on and at one point I even saw tears in his eyes, but they were all fake stories, completely, and what disturbed me the most is that they were so believable, and at one point during the stories he quickly looked at me and smiled a very creepy smile, and by the end I was completely astonished, I confronted him about this and he told me he thought it was funny, I myself didn't find it funny I found it very very creepy, but like I said, towards me he is very sweet but towards other people he acts like a jerk.
for example, we went out to eat the other day, and when the waitress came, he ordered a vodka tonic, and the waitress asked him for ID, since he left it in the car, he wanted her to give him the drunk without the ID, now he does look waaay over 21 (he's 32), but he had to go back to the car to get it, well he was very upset and on purpose he started ordering drink after drink and giving the waitress very complicated orders, and he ended up getting pretty drunk at the restaurant, and when we left he on purpose (he told me), didn't leave her a tip and the "C" Word on our way out, I was very embarrased and didn't know what to do, it was horrible, and on other occasions he has been rude to people at the movies, stores, etc.
Other strange things are that he apart from his AA meetings hobby, also attends a counseling group for people who are grieving over the loss of family members, he attends the group every week, and he told me in the past he has attended numerous other support groups and told them lies. I didn't even know what to say.
And it doesn't even end there, although he is very good in bed, he sometimes has some very strange fantasies that have really creeped me out, for example, once he told me to put a pair of scissors to his genital area because he liked the idea of a woman being in a possition to hurt him, he also made me hold a plastic gun to his head once and pretend I was a mugger while we were having sex once. All these things have really confused me, and to add to it, every time he hears about a news report about something horrible that happened he thinks it's funny, and once told me that he hoped his neighbor's kids would fall off their bikes and break their skulls because they made a lot of noise while he was playing video games.
What should I do here? Am I being paranoid? Is he normal? I really really like him and my god he is one of the most handsome men I've ever seen and his body is to die for, and he is always charming, sweet and caring to me and gives me really expensive gifts, I'm not kidding, like every week. But when I think about all the other stuff I get creeped out and when I briefly told him I found him going to AA meetings for fun he told me quote "Well I'm technically an alcoholic because I like getting drunk so I'm not lying", well I've seen him drink a lot but apart from one time, I've never seen him drunk.
Because I was a little worried I did a court record search on his name and found out he does indeed have a criminal record, it wasn't anything extreme but a little worrying- 2 for Disorderly Conduct, 1 for Public Intoxication, 1 for DUI, 1 for Nuisance Conduct, 1 for Simple Assault and Battery, and 1 for Cruelty to Animals- Yeah I was a little disturbed but when I saw the dates all of these happened when he was around 18-20, except for the DUI.
So am I dating a Sociopath? could he really be bad I guess, I don't know the term, I honestly can't believe it because he is so sweet and I love being with him, but I do get concerned by his behavior sometimes, so what should I do?
